Personal debt in Canadian families
The latest situation seems to be precarious and could worsen any slowdown in the economy. Section 11 indicated that household spending drops sharply during recessions. Higher debt loads could may be the next decline even larger.
Whether or not the current debt levels are at crisis levels may depend on who holds the debt. The 1984 household survey found that debt, as a percentage of assets were highest among younger households. At that time, debt as a percentage of assets was 37% for households under 25 years of age, 29% for those aged 35-44, 10% for those aged 45-54, 5% for those aged 55-54 and less than 2% for households 65 and over.9 The weaker income trends among younger families suggests that an even greater share of the total debt may now be borne by those under the age of 45.

Carlo Carretto's Letters from the Desert
It is true that Jesus said, “Go, and make disciples of all nations,” But he also added, “Without me you can do nothing.” It is true that Saint Ignatius said, “Act as though everything depended upon you.” But he added, “But pray as though everything depended upon God.” God is the creator of the physical cosmos as well as of the human cosmos. He rules the stars as he rules the church. And if, in his love, he has wished to make men his collaborators in the work of salvation, the limit of their power is very small and clearly defined. It is the limit of the wire compared with the electric current.
We are the wire, God is the current. Our only power is to let the current pass through us. Of course, we have the power to interrupt it and say “no.” But nothing more.

Hutu killer speaks
It was as if we were taken over by Satan. We were taken over by Satan. When Satan is using you, you lose your mind. We were not ourselves. Beginning with me, I don't think I was normal.
You wouldn't be normal if you start butchering people for no reason. We had been attacked by the devil.
Even when I dream my body changes in a way I cannot explain. These people were my neighbours. The picture of their deaths may never leave me. Everything else I can get out of my head but that picture never leaves.

Hip-waist ratio best predicts heart risk
LONDON (AP) — Well-toned hips and a trim waist — not just the pounds you carry — appear to be one of the best protections against heart attacks, according to a study of thousands of people in different countries.
Researchers reported in Friday's issue of The Lancet medical journal that a hip-to-waist ratio is a better predictor of the risk of heart attack for a variety of ethnic groups than body-mass index, the current standard.
Based on weight and height, the body-mass index takes no notice of where fat is or how muscular a person is, said Dr. Arya Sharma, professor of medicine at McMaster University and co-author of the study. An athlete and a couch potato could have similar BMI scores, he noted.USATODAY.com - Hip-waist ratio best predicts heart risk
