7 Habits: The Public Victory Phase :: Flipping Heck! Productivity, Project Management & Motivation Blog ::
Covey backs up his emotional bank account analogy with 6 forms of deposits (although he does list 7 - is that a typo?) that can be made into it:
1. Understanding the individual - You need to do this before you try to deposit anything else. You need to understand what the person needs and wants not just what you want.
2. Attend to the little things - in relationships, the little things can snowball to become big things. Just a simple "Hello" and a smile every morning to a co-worker can say more than a thousand words.
3.
4. Keep Commitments - As my mum used to say, never make a promise you can't keep. But, there are odd occasions when we truly can't keep a promise so, in order to stop a major emotional withdrawal happening let the person know why and that you're sorry. Being honest will go a long way.
5. Clarify your expectations - What do they expect from this, not just what you expect. If they're at odds then a satisfactory conclusion will never be reached
6. Show personality integrity - This goes beyond just keeping promises, it's fulfilling and managing expectations and going the extra "mile". This is also about showing general loyalty to people, especially those not around (i.e. don't slag them off just because they can't hear you - remember the walls have ears!)
7. Apologise when making a withdrawl - Sometimes we can't help break a promise or hurt someone's feelings so you need to bite the bullet and be man (or woman) enough to apologise - and mean it!

BBC NEWS | Middle East | Becalmed Baghdad counts war's cost
The drop in violence has allowed many to think more about its effects. One recent study found that 70% of children exposed to trauma in Iraq go on to develop psychological problems.
At a park in central Baghdad, two orphans are playing.
Salah is nine years old. He was found by the police after a bomb went off. Nobody knows what happened to his family.
Saif is seven. His parents were killed in an explosion.
"I want to tell them [the bombers] it's against God's law to kill people," he tells me. "I want to ask them: why did you kill my mother and father."
He says he wants to be a policeman when he grows up, so that he can find his parents' killers and send them to prison.
Salah barely talks at all. His shaking hands tell their own story.

Health moves 'halve early deaths'
Women could halve their risk of premature death by adopting a healthier lifestyle, research suggests.
By avoiding cigarettes, exercising regularly, eating healthily and keeping weight in check, 55% of early deaths from chronic diseases could be avoided.
Following all four lifestyle tips could cut 44% of cancer deaths and 72% of cardiovascular deaths, the study of nearly 80,000 nurses suggests.

The Zen of Todoist
Now is better than later.
Later is better than never.
Organized is better than messy.
Big things are composed by smaller things.
Smaller things are done by action.
Think like a person of action.
Act like a person of thought.
The beginning is half of every action.
The longest journey starts with the first step.
Everything should be made as simple as possible.
But not simpler.
Celebrate any progress.
Don't wait to get perfect.
Deadlines and stress are a part of life.

Community Renewable Energy Waterloo (CREW)
Currently, there are a handful of solar-powered homes in Waterloo region, some of which were installed through NRCan's TEAM Homes project. The performance of these solar installations can be viewed online at Fat Spaniel. To view the Waterloo TEAM homes, scroll down to ARISE Technologies and click on Team Home #1 for a real time look at how much solar energy is used and generated in the MacLellan household.
There are also several public buildings which demonstrate solar energy, including Federation Hall at the University of Waterloo, Waterloo City Hall and the Regional Emergency Medical Services building as well as the YMCA outdoor centre out at Paradise Lake. New installations in the planning stages are Rockway Mennonite Collegiate and the Grand House Co-operative in Cambridge. Natural Power Products has both wind and solar products installed at their retail store in Huron Park, Kitchener, where they regularly host introductory sessions on renewable energy, and if you're interested in incorporating solar power in your sustainable living community event, you can now rent a 1500 watt solar PV system from ARISE Technologies. Contact Frank Ruffolo at ARISE for details.

Your Money - Socially Responsible, With Egg on Its Face - NYTimes.com
Something else the S.E.C. ferreted out: once the ineligible companies were in the two Pax World funds, they tended to elude notice. Though the company told shareholders that it regularly reviewed all holdings, the S.E.C. determined that the company's social research department merely reviewed holdings "as time permitted." As a result, the funds held at least one prohibited security every single day from 2001 through early 2006.
